Verses that don’t say what you think they say (1)

We need to read the whole of the bible, unfiltered, if we are to get a clear view of who God is. Otherwise we will focus on the bits we find comfortable – and come to construct a ‘god’ that isn’t real. This is the first of what I hope will be a series of such explorations.

We all know the verse:

The wolf and the lamb will feed together,
and the lion will eat straw like the ox.
They will neither harm nor destroy
on all my holy mountain,”
says the Lord. Is 65:25

Unfortunately that not what it actually says. It actually says:

The wolf and the lamb will feed together,
and the lion will eat straw like the ox,
and dust will be the serpent’s food.
They will neither harm nor destroy
on all my holy mountain,”
says the Lord. Is 65:25

I.e the curse that God imposed on the serpent in the garden of Eden will still be upon it. I leave it to you to consider the implications…
